March 4, 2020 - Change of plans- Hello George Town

March 4, 2020 - Back to George Town
7:30 am-  One good thing about cruising is you meet people and we have made friends with Karen and Robert. The bad thing is you eventually have to go your separate ways. Bellaventure 1 raised her anchor this morning as we waved goodbye to our new friends. They have to be back to Vero Beach in Florida in 3 weeks to meet their family and didn’t want to chance staying longer since the weather can be unpredictable. We know we will see them again since they keep their boat at the same marina in Fort Pierce.

Karen raising the anchor and off they go.

We had fun cruising with Bellaventure 1

8:00 am-  I almost had a fright when a catamaran came straight to our stern with the sails up. It was Jim and Bentley from Salty Paws who played guitar and banjo last night on the beach. They wanted to say goodbye.

I asked Steve to put on the generator so I can toast up English muffins.
9:30 am-  We moved closer to the North shore of the island since we are expecting Northerly winds in the high 29 and gusting in the 40  starting on Saturday. We might be here for another week or so.

10:00 am-  Steve started re thinking whether we stay for the Mutton Festival. Looking at the forecast for the next 2 weeks, it looks like the wind would prevent us to leave Thompson Bay in Long Island. We decided to lift our anchor and sail back to George Town. We will be able to do laundry and prepare for when the kids come on the 20th. As much as I hate leaving this place, I believe it is the right decision. The funny thing is we will surprise Karen and Robert.
We motor sailed all the way.  The mail ship went by heading to Long Island.
4:00 pm - After 34 kn miles, we dropped the hook at Monument Beach in George Town. We will be here at least until the kids come but there is a lot to do and I will finally be able to get loads of laundry done.

When we arrived Steve took a few minutes to replace the guide to the self taylor guide. He had the part but just never needed to repair it.

5:30 pm- Had mini meatloaf, fried spinach and pasta for dinner. We blew the conch at sunset in honour of my sister’s birthday. That was her wish from us.

We surprised Karen and Robert with our arrival at George Town.  At 6:30pm we went to their boat for a quick euchre match. They will be leaving early in the morning to continue their journey.

8:00 pm-  We said our goodbyes and were back at the boat. Watched TV before going to bed.
