February 12, 2020 - Exploring George Town

 February 12, 2020
After listening to the cruise net while having our breakfast, we went across the bay to rent a car with Karen and Robert.
We first went in the grocery store since the provision ship came yesterday. Yay!  They had tomatoes AND avocados today.
Thompson Car rental brought the car to us so that we didn’t have to walk 3 miles to their office.
9:30am- Drove from one end to the other end of the island. It looks a lot like Long Island.  Map of the island.

Our first stop was ice cream

During our sightseeing drive, we noticed how the water tower was all twisted. Almost looks like a plane hit it.

We stopped at a ruin which was an old prison

This statue was missing his nose and spear.

History
This historic site is a glittering golden symbol of a man triumphing over slavery juxtaposed with an old rotting jail. Pompey, a slave under British landowner Lord Rolle, led the first substantial rebellion for Bahamian slaves, making the event a true precursor to emancipation in the Bahamas.

History
On the Queen's Highway near Williamstown is the Salt Beacon, a classical Tuscan column built in the first half of the 19th century to guide ships to the salt port. Exuma's naturally flat geography lent itself to the salt-raking industry, which was big business before the advent of refrigeration.

1:00pm- We stopped for lunch at Mr D’s Conch and enjoyed a delicious meal

We went to many different places and was looking for the cotton plantation but a local told us there wasn’t much of a building anymore but we did find a cotton tree. Because of chenille infestation, the cotton plantation did not last a long time.

We crossed over the Tropic of Cancer.

We had the rental until 10am tomorrow but seeing that we covered the whole island, we decided to return the car around 5pm.
Came back to the boat and of course we were soak and wet.
There was a problem with my toilet (or head) before we left this morning so Steve decided to take a look at it. He decided he will look at it in the morning and have a cup of tea instead.
We had a great day exploring. The maps which are given are not very clear so the challenge is to find the different spots.
