January 27 - 30, 2020- Northern Exumas

January 27, 2020 - Allen’s Cay
What a gorgeous mooring. Lots of current so I will only be swimming during slack times.
We could hear birds singing this morning. We plan on exploring the area today.
9:00am- Steve is off with Robert lobstering this morning before breakfast.  I decided to go kayaking.

The water is crystal clear

Can’t ask for a better day.

11:00am - No lobster today but Steve said there was a great place to snorkel. I dove and swam around the boat for exercise and then took a lovely shower before going in Highborn cay at their marina. It is just across Allen’s Cay.
There were sharks all over the marina  along with a bird in an open cave.

Steve filled up the jug with gas and diesel.  What a pretty bird

There was a well provisioned grocery store but of course so expensive. What do you expect in the Bahamas.

We finished off the Mahi for lunch and made tacos. Yummy.
The water was so calm however late  afternoon the winds were fighting the current creating a small chop. The boats were going in every direction but the current was winning out over the wind.
5:30pm- We were invited to Karen and Robert’s for dinner and met his brother David and Nancy who have  a Trawler. Karen made the most wonderful meal along with fresh sourdough bread.

David, Steve and Robert enjoying a drink.

Karen and Nancy

8:00pm- The winds has dropped down from late afternoon as we got back to the boat. It was a great evening.
Karen is going to show me how to make sourdough. It was so good.
Steve and I were back at the boat around 8:30pm. We watched 1 episode of Messiah before going to bed

January 28, 2020
Another beautiful day. After French toast breakfast, Steve made water for a while as I reorganized my galley to be more efficienr.
10:15am-  Steve used his new dive flag and went snorkelling in the area.

Steve helped Robert with his water maker. I went to the beach and practiced using my drone. I am so nervous of it flying over the water. If she crashes, it is done. I will keep practising.
After Steve came back from Robert’s boat, we all went to the beach for a walk. Too funny to see all the iguanas all around us as we were discovering the island. We found an old ruined house which at one time would of had a spectacular view.

Steve found his name written on one of the walls

Karen looking out at their boat

Curious iguana

We weren’t sure what fruit this one. My daughter who lives in Florida text me saying that it is called the Seven Year Apple.

Robert took a bite and said it was very bitter.

A girl was feeding this small bird on the beach. They were flying within a small tree on the beach.

After we returned, I cooled down by jumping in the water. It was so nice.
4:30pm-  Robert and Karen had to reposition their anchor since it never seems right. Unfortunately, it started raining.

5:00pm-  Robert, Karen, David and Nancy came over for hors d’oeuvres. At least it stopped raining.
At sunset we blew the conch for the first time this season
7:00pm- Steve and I had pork chops for dinner and then watched Messiah episode before bedtime.

Love waking with the sun

After breakfast, David and Robert picked up Steve at 9:00amt to go snorkelling and hopefully lobstering. I went kayaking along side Karen and Nancy who were on their boards. Nancy was giving Karen a few tips on manoeuvring her board in the current.

. After the men returned, I decided to go swimming. I am trying to swim more and more to build up my strength.
We then worked on our new hard top Bimini. We needed to add silicone along one of the seams under the new solar panel.

2:15pm-  Steve and I went to Highborn marina to get ice and drop off our garbage. They charge $5 to dispose your garbage.
4:00pm-  We took our dinghy and went fishing with Robert and Karen. Karen gave Steve squid for bait however we didn’t have much luck. Steve caught a squirrel but that was all.

The water was so clear that it was looking down an aquarium. I made sure to bring my go pro and took video. So breath taking.

The bay got full today.  We went from 6 boat to 19. What a beautiful evening. We didn’t catch the sunset quite in time.

Watched one episode of a new series called ‘Dirty John’ before heading to bed.
Every once in a while during the night, I get up and look out the boat to ensure no one’s anchor is dragging. I am always so astonished when I look up and see all the stars. It is something you don’t see at home.
January 30, 2020
It was a little bumpy this morning. We get our workout just balancing. Interesting how you lose weight when living on the boat. Must be because the body is constantly moving without realizing it.
Steve put on the generator to make and heat up water.
11:00pm- Steve and I went for a walk on the island along the beach. I didn’t find any treasure however I enjoyed the beach.
1:00pm-  Karen and Robert came by the boat to discuss our next destination. We plan on heading out towards Warderick Wells and hopefully they will have moorings and Cambridge. Looking forward to that since we have never been to Cambridge.
I really liked Allen’s Cay and would definitely return.
3:00pm-  I decided to do some painting.
